11th December was the final day of India Speed Week 2016 (ISW). The three day event organized in the runway of Behala Flying Club brought different speedsters and drag racing teams around different automobile categories and segments to Kolkata. Governed by FMSCI or Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India and managed by Elite Octane Inc., ISW 2016 mainly concentrated on the phenomena of national and international airstrip racing.
The show was flagged by self-acclaimed motorcycle fanatic and Bollywood actor John Abraham. Many other renowned personalities like: Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Baichung Bhutia, Parambrate Chatterjee, Koyel Mullick were also present during the Flag Off of the Drag Races as well as around the 3 days of festival to cheer up the teams while they head down the tracks. At the India Speed Week, the drag racing was held in the quarter mile format. It means, the fastest competitor to cover the quarter mile distance on the runway from standstill was considered as the winner in that category. Here the categories were defined by the modification levels and engine cubic capacities.
Besides, this event also witnessed participation from bikes and stock cars across different engine capacities and categories with various stages of engines and other types of modifications ranging from the header changes and mundane filter to the extreme turbo and NOS enabled versions.
Apart from that, this speed week also served as the platform for both International and Indian vehicle manufacturers to showcase their products. Here the visitors were able to witness a range of bikes and cars from the brands like Ferrari, Suzuki, Lamborghini, Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Maserati, Mini Cooper, Mercedes, Polaris, Indian, Mahindra, Skoda, Triumph, Honda, KTM, Kawasaki and a complete range of vintage cars. For the bike events, the 2 stroke category was divided into two main sub categories, which were M1 and M2. M1 category included bikes ranging from 100cc to 225cc whereas the M2 included vehicles from 250cc to 360cc. The 4 stroke category were divided into three sub categories like M3 (vehicles ranging from 100cc to 225cc), M4 (vehicles ranging from 250cc to 360cc) and M5 (vehicles ranging from 361cc to 500cc). Besides, the two wheeler event also had a race for Indian cruisers (P2) and one Indian open category (O1). For the enthusiasts, one fastest wheelie competition for the Indian bikes was also arranged at the end of the program. Apart from the two wheelers race, the 2016 India Speed Week had a race for Indian Pro-Stock and Street-Stock vehicles, where C,K,G Class cars were also included.
